"I didn't realize my regular pillow wasn't supporting my neck until I tried this. It fits perfectly in the curve of my neck, and being able to remove hulls made it the exact height I needed. My neck stiffness is finally gone."

Before Your First Night

A buckwheat pillow is filled with natural hulls instead of foam or fiber. The hulls move with you as you settle in, creating a firm, adjustable feel with steady airflow through the pillow.

Learn more about how buckwheat pillows work.

Picking the Right Size

Choose Japanese Plus (14" x 20") if you like a more compact pillow with a focused, traditional buckwheat feel.

Choose Standard (20" x 26") if you prefer more surface area or want something closer to the size of a regular bed pillow.

Both sizes are adjustable. The better choice simply depends on whether you prefer a smaller, more precise pillow or a larger sleeping surface.

Read our buckwheat pillow size guide.

Getting the Fit Just Right

Start with the pillow as it arrives, then remove a small amount of hulls if it feels too high or too firm. Give yourself a few nights to fine tune the fill until your head and neck feel properly supported.

When lying down, gently shape the hulls into the curve of your neck instead of using the pillow completely flat.

See our setup instructions.

Keeping It Fresh

Remove any washable cover components according to your pillow model before cleaning. The buckwheat hull filling should always stay dry.

Regular airing and proper cover care will help keep your pillow feeling clean, fresh, and ready for nightly use.

What Makes a Good Buckwheat Pillow?

The PineTales Approach
Material First
Whole hull structure comes first
We use whole buckwheat hulls because the natural shape is what creates the stable, supportive feel PineTales is known for.
Cleaned Properly
Refined, not over processed
Our 4-stage cleaning process removes dust and debris while preserving the integrity of the fill itself. We don't pre-polish hulls for a reason.
Designed to Fit
Overfilled so you can fine tune it
A PineTales buckwheat pillow are intentionally overstuffed so you can adjust it downward until the support feels right for you. Our Pillows Ship out 5-7 inches thick making them ideal for many athletes, bodybuilders and side sleepers with wider shoulders.
Built for Buckwheat
Construction matched to a dense natural fill
From reinforced stitching to premium YKK zippers, we build around the actual demands of buckwheat—not labels like GOTS or organic certifications, which don’t affect how a buckwheat pillow supports, adjusts, or holds its shape over time.
Sleep Surface
Outer covers chosen for feel and airflow
Bamboo, Tencel™, and other premium cover options help complete the pillow with a cooler, more refined surface.
Brand Focus
Buckwheat is not a side product for us
PineTales has focused on buckwheat pillows since 2017, refining the category instead of treating it like just another bedding SKU.
Hygiene Guarantee: Why We Don't Accept Returns
+
The Industry Standard: Many stores offer generous "risk-free" trials or return windows on bedding. While that sounds nice, you can never really know what happens to returned bedding. It may be refurbished or repacked and sold again. We believe you shouldn't have to wonder if the "new" pillow or accessory you just bought was tested out or slept on by someone else already.
The PineTales Standard: We refuse to compromise on hygiene. Once a pillow or accessory leaves our warehouse, it never comes back. This ensures that every product you receive is guaranteed 100% brand new and sanitary.
Think of it like underwear: You wouldn't want to buy "returned" underwear, right? To protect your health, all sales are final.

*Don't worry: We fully cover manufacturing defects or shipping damage. If it arrives broken, we replace it immediately.

A Buckwheat Cervical Pillow For Targeted Neck Support

Standard pillows support your head but often leave a gap beneath your neck. Our 17" × 6" Cervical Neck Roll, filled with 100% organic buckwheat hulls, is designed to fill that gap and provide targeted cervical support. Its cylindrical shape cradles the natural curve of your spine, encouraging alignment and helping to release tension. This pillow is also often used as arm support, by side sleepers in combination with one of our regular shaped buckwheat pillows.

Is This Neck Roll Right for You?

  • If you have neck or shoulder tension: Supports your cervical curve, helping reduce stiffness and posture-induced headaches.
  • If you’re a side or back sleeper: Use it alone or with your regular pillow to maintain alignment. Remove hulls for back sleeping, keep it fuller for side sleeping.
  • If you want versatile posture support: Use it while sleeping, lounging, working at a desk, or even for yoga and meditation practice. Many of our customers also use it as lumbar support or under their knees when sleeping on their back.

More Than a Pillow: Versatile Uses

  • For Sleep: Place under your neck to maintain spinal alignment all night.
  • For Side Sleepers: Pair with a knee pillow to align hips and lower back.
  • For Rest: Place under your knees to relieve pressure on the lumbar spine.
  • For Work: Use as a lumbar bolster in your office chair or on the couch.
  • For Travel & Camping: Compact size makes it a great companion, though our Travel Pillow is easier to carry.
  • For Yoga: Overfilled rolls can double as a firm yoga bolster for stretches and poses.

Smart Design & Materials

The Filling: 100% Buckwheat Hulls

  • Molds to your contours, then holds shape for firm and consistent support.
  • Promotes airflow, preventing heat and moisture buildup.
  • Hull density can be fine-tuned for pressure relief and firmness preference.

The Covers: Bamboo & Cotton

  • Outer Cover: Our horizon bamboo-rayon design. Smooth, breathable, and machine washable.
  • Inner Case: Stretchable cotton core provides flexibility, making the pillow softer than other roll pillows on the market.

The Zipper Advantage

  • Both cases feature premium YKK zippers.
  • Our zipper is sewn on the side—not the top—so you’ll never lay directly on it. This prevents discomfort and avoids zipper stress or breakage.

Customizable & Easy to Care For

  • Adjust Your Support: Arrives intentionally overstuffed. Remove hulls to achieve your preferred firmness and loft.
  • Easy to Clean: Bamboo outer cover is removable and machine washable. Refresh hulls by sun-drying.
  • Ready to Use: No extra pillowcases needed. Unpack and enjoy handcrafted comfort right away.
  • Size: Compact 17" × 6" cylindrical design for precise cervical support.

Questions & Answers

What is a cervical buckwheat pillow used for?

A cervical pillow, or neck roll, is specifically designed to support the natural curve of your neck. It provides targeted alignment for your cervical spine, making it ideal for relieving stiffness and promoting proper posture while you rest. It's often used with your main pillow for enhanced support.

How do I use it?

Most people place it inside their pillowcase at the bottom edge of their regular pillow to create a supportive "roll" for their neck. It can also be used on its own for short periods of rest, as a lumbar support cushion in your chair, or as a compact travel pillow.

Will it feel too firm?

It is intentionally firm to provide therapeutic support and prevent your neck from sinking into an unhealthy position. However, it's fully adjustable. If it feels too firm at first, simply unzip the cover and remove some of the buckwheat hulls until you find the perfect balance of comfort and support.

Is this different from a regular bed pillow?

Yes. This is a smaller, targeted support pillow. While it can be used alone, it's different from the products in our main buckwheat bed pillow collection. For our most luxurious full-size option, many customers choose the top-rated Premium Buckwheat Pillow.
